I could rant about the costs of cards these days and capitalism in general.
But the bottom line is my mom likes cards and Mother’s Day (in the US) is this Sunday.
I was inspired to write this post because I mentioned sending a card to my mom on my date Tuesday and my date texted me yesterday saying he was inspired and sent his mom a card. So I’m hoping this inspires you too.
And damn, I kinda have to admit I like cards too. I grew up getting them from my maternal grandmother for every insignificant holiday with five bucks in them. There is nostalgia for them. And I appreciated the card my mom recently sent to my new apartment when I broke up with my ex and moved out.
They are a sweet, fairly simple, low time and effort task, thinking of you gesture. And they are perfect for when you don’t quite have the words to say to the recipient.
But back to my mom. I know she will appreciate that gesture.
Plus, I found one that truly did remind me of her at Target. It said good moms let you lick the beater (with a hand mixer on front), inside but great moms turn it off first. Happy Mother’s Day! Or something to that extent, I’m paraphrasing. But that is our family’s sense of humor.
So send your mom a card.
If you need a cheap card, Trader Joe’s has many. Or buy a bunch of pre-decorated blank note cards and tailor it to the holiday. Or you could even make your own. And if you don’t know what to say just steal an idea, I mean find inspiration in the already premade card aisle.
